 The Cottages at Schroeder Hill

The Cottages at Schroeder Hill

Carl Schroeder was a jack-of-all-trades in the mid-1800s in the Hermann area.  His primary trade was as a stone mason, but was also an excellent wood worker and craftsman.  Schroeder also produced violins and other stringed instruments. Schroeder Hill includes three separate buildings that guests can rent.  Carl Schroeder's residence (The Schroeder House), his tool shed and workshop (the Stonewerks), and his Violin Shop, where he crafted musical instruments.  All three units have California King Beds, and patios looking out over the southern part of town.  These three units are the only three units we offer as private cottages, where you would have the whole building to yourself.  Upon arrival, you will receive a complimentary bottle of wine, a small snack tray with meats, cheeses, and fruit.  Breakfast is included each morning between 8:30a-10am down at the main inn building where you check in.

The Schroeder House

The Schroeder House is the former residence of Carl Schroeder.   The house has a small sitting room, ornate antique furniture, and a brick patio with wooden patio furniture.  The bathroom includes a soaking tub, and giant walk-in shower.  The bedroom features a pencil-post California King bed.  The stone detailing on the house exterior is incredible.  Each window is adorned with decorative stone elements, and a stone archway leads you down a path to a secondary entrance to the bedchambers.  This is a private cottage (it is not shared with other guests).

The Violin Shop

Carl Schroeder was also crafted musical instruments.  In this space, his Violin Shop, he would make stringed instruments for local musicians.  Now, this cottage can sleep two adults and two children.  On the main level, a pencil-post California King bed fills the bed chambers, along with coffee service, a closet, and some soft furniture.  A narrow, steep stairway leads upstairs to a room with two twin beds.  This upstairs space is only recommended for children, due to the nature of the stairway.  The bathroom is broken into a vanity room, and the shower room.  The shower room is a large walk-in shower space made of stone and brick.  This is a private cottage (it is not shared with other guests).
