Have you ever felt like you’ve hit the lottery and you didn’t even buy a ticket? That’s how it feels while traveling down Hwy 19 South into Hermann. Despite the heat and drought of this summer, the colors this fall are bursting like fireworks on the hillsides and river banks.
The cooler weather has been a real treat ,and there has even been a bite in the air on some early mornings as we’ve had our first frost for the season. Hermann is so picturesque, charming and inviting that you will find yourself whistling, but there is no music. It was just one of those seasons where you feel like you had hit the lottery. You will love this little town and there is always something to do.
October is the kick off to the upcoming holidays, and Hermann’s Oktoberfest is not short on celebrations. Oktoberfest is in full swing every weekend this month with entertainment, demonstrations, museum tours, and more. As always, you can find delicious food, wine, and beer to add to the festivities.
This coming weekend (October 20th & 21st), Hermann will also play host to the “2012 Artists of Wine Country: Art, Walks, and Talks.” This free event is open to the public, is family friendly and allows participants to visit with artists in their studios and galleries. Maps for this self-guided walking tour are available at the Hermann Tourism Bureau and at a tour stop located at 311 Schiller Street. Artists will be available to visit with guests from 10:00 – 5:00 on Saturday and 11:00 – 4:00 on Sunday. For more information, please call 1-800-932-8687.
