Spring into Hermann for the 62nd Annual Hermann Maifest on May 16-18, 2014!
In early years, the Maifest was a celebration of the end of the school year for local, young children. Those celebrations included picnics with boys and girls dressed in their Sunday best where the Municipal Band led a parade to the City Park. There the children frolicked and played the day away celebrating the beginning of summer.
The tradition of Hermann’s Maifest grew into a citywide celebration for Hermann when the Brush & Palette Club revived it in 1952 as a fund raiser. The outcome was so successful they have continued the event each year since. This year’s celebration promises to be one of a traditional German celebration of spring. The Volksplatz will be open with artists and crafters as well as demonstrations of blacksmithing. Fourth graders will be doing the Maypole Dancing on Saturday at 11 am with many historic tours and exhibits around town all weekend. Visit Hermannhof Winery to listen to Richie & His Famous Accordion or stop by the Tin Mill Brewery and catch music by the Orbits. The Hermann Mill may be the place for you with Southern style comfort food and beverages to wet your whistle. It’s also not too late to book a luxury suite at the Inn at Hermannhof or unwind in one of our beautiful luxurious hillside cottages.
Come to Hermann for some Maifest fun and allow Hermannhof the opportunity to show you what it’s like to spring in to Hermann for some traditional German fun!
